The North Chicago man faces charges for allegations he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in Libertyville.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL – A 21-year-old North Chicago man faces criminal sex abuse charges for having sexual contact with a 16-year-old girl, according to a Libertyville Police Department report. Rakim Smith, 21, of 8 Prairie View Court, #846-C, in North Chicago, was taken into custody earlier this month following an investigation by North Chicago and Libertyville police departments, authorities said. The investigation was launched after the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services forwarded a complaint regarding the sexual contact between Rakim and the minor to the North Chicago Police Department.

In May, the investigation was turned over to Libertyville detectives when North Chicago police learned the instances of sexual contact happened in Libertyville, according to a police report. Smith was taken into custody for a different crime on June 2 and Libertyville police interviewed him. Smith allegedly admitted to the sexual contact with the 16-year-old girl, police said.

Smith has been charged with six counts of criminal sexual abuse, domestic battery/bodily harm and criminal trespassing to land, according to online jail records. He remains in custody at the Lake County Jail on a $25,000 bail.
