Man Accused Of Punching Libertyville Officer

A 54-year-old Vernon Hills man also faces a trespassing charge following two incidents that occurred at a Libertyville apartment complex.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A 54-year-old Vernon Hills man faces charges for allegations he punched a Libertyville Police Department officer in the face earlier this month. The incident occurred after officers were called to an apartment building in the 100 block of east Cook Avenue for a report of a man spotted on video damaging property in a common area at the building, according to a Libertyville Police Department police report.

Police found the man, Gennadiy Zakharov, of Parkside Court in Vernon Hills, on the property shortly after 8 a.m. on Sept. 8, according to authorities.

While being taken into custody, Zakharov resisted officers and punched an officer in the face, according to the police report. Zakharov was taken to the hospital and was issued a trespass warning for the property.

Following that incident, authorities were again called to the same apartment building for a report that Zahkorov had returned just before noon on Sept. 17, which was a violation of the trespass warning. He was taken to the Libertyville Police Department where he was cited and taken to the Lake County Jail.

Zahkorov has been charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to real property in connection with both incidents at the Libertyville apartment complex.
