Man Dies After Shooting Himself at Gun Range: Police

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Georgia man shot himself with a firearm he rented from a gun range near Zion Sunday morning, authorities said. The 49-year-old man, who is from Riverdale, Georgia, entered 5 Star Firearms, 41666 North Sheridan in unincorporated Zion, shortly after 11 a.m. before proceeding with his rented gun to the on-site range, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Video surveillance shows the man using the gun to shoot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The Lake County Coroner's Office responded and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Lake County Coroner’s Office.
