More Charges Possible For Gymnastics Coach In Sex Assault Case
Kendale Coats is accused of assaulting a teen he trained. Charges have been filed in Lake Co. and more charges are possible, attorney said.

LAKE COUNTY, IL – More charges are being considered for a gymnastics coach from Palatine accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl he trained. Kendale L. Coats, of the 900 block of North Sterling Drive, pleaded not guilty last month in Lake County to felony counts of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, the Daily Herald reports. Coats allegedly had sexual contact with the victim several times while he worked as a gymnastics coach.
Since he allegedly admitted to having sexual contact with the girl at his home in Palatine, attorneys said this past week they are looking into filing similar charges against Coats in Cook County, according to the Daily Herald.
An investigation into the alleged sex assault was launched after the victim contacted police and told authorities she and Coats had sex at a Libertyville hotel, according to a January Daily Herald article. Investigators then recovered credit card receipts, which showed Coats had checked in to the hotel using his first name on Jan. 11, the report added.
