Novartis Gene Therapies in Libertyville Will Layoff 275 Employees

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Novartis Gene Therapies in Libertyville will be ceasing operations by the end of next year with plans to layoff 275 employees, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

According to a statement from the company, "the manufacturing, testing and distribution of Zolgensma, a gene therapy used to treat spinal muscular atrophy, will be consolidated at Novartis' Durham, N.C., facility." Crain's is reporting the company made the decision after "a comprehensive manufacturing site network evaluation, Novartis made the difficult decision to cease operations."
