Passenger Found in Trunk During DUI Stop in Libertyville

The driver was charged with DUI and the passenger in the trunk was cited for failure to wear a seat belt.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL - Police officers in Libertyville found a passenger riding in the trunk of a car after they pulled a man over for drunken driving earlier this month.

Officers conducted the traffic stop on the vehicle, which was seen weaving on Route 137 west of Butterfield Road at about 1:35 a.m. on Nov. 17, according to a Libertyville Police Department report.

Police questioned the driver, Justin Frederick Andrews, 24, of 2542 N. Cherry Cove Lane in Round Lake Beach. The officers smelled the odor of alcohol and field sobriety tests confirmed he had been driving under the influence of alcohol, according to police.

Andrews was arrested and as police prepared to have Andrews’ car towed, they discovered that a passenger, Robert Gerard Stochl, 26, was in the trunk of the car, according to the police report.

Stochl, of Florida, was cited for failure to wear a seat belt.

Andrews was charged with DUI and improper lane usage. He was processed and released after posting his driver’s license and a $1,000 personal recognizance bond. His court date is scheduled for December 2 in Lake County.
