Peterson Road, Route 60 Intersection Opens Sept. 1

New turn lanes and traffic signals were added as part of the new intersection in Lake County.

Drivers that travel Peterson Road, in the central area of the county near Grayslake and Round Lake Park, will soon see a different intersection at Illinois Route 60.

The intersection has been relocated and reconstructed slightly to the southeast in order to add new turn lanes and traffic signals. The intersection improvements and road realignment will help with the common bottle neck traffic that occurs there. The new intersection will open to traffic on Sept. 1.

The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) explained that in order to make these improvements, the intersection had to be relocated away from Squaw Creek, which is adjacent to the existing intersection.

LCDOT also installed a new traffic signal for Saddlebrook residents and other property owners to provide them with efficient and safe access to the new Peterson Road alignment.

Additionally, as part of this project, LCDOT reconfigured Chardon Road (located northwest of Peterson Road at IL Route 60) to remove the skewed angle that previously existed in order to improve travel and safety.

While the new alignment will be open to motorists on Sept. 1, motorists should continue to use caution in this construction area over the next several weeks.
