Police Arrest Man For Storage Locker Thefts

An Elmwood Park man has been charged with thefts in Libertyville and across the suburbs, police said.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL -- A 36-year-old Elmwood Park man has been arrested in connection with a string of storage locker thefts that occurred in Libertyville and across the suburbs in recent months. The Libertyville Police Department Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at a storage facility in Chicago last week. There they found several storage lockers containing stolen property, police said.

Detectives made contact with a suspect in the thefts, Michael Lozada, who was taken into custody on Sept. 11.

Lozada, of 7935 W. Belmont St. in Elmwood Park, has been charged with burglary and theft $10,000-$100,000. Bond has been set at $150,000 for Lozada.

Meanwhile, Libertyville Police Department detectives are working to process a large amount of recovered property in hopes of identifying the owners, police said. Libertyville took multiple reports of storage locker thefts in the village in late July 2017.

Libertyville police have been working with numerous agencies in Lake and Cook counties, as well as the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, in investigating the storage locker thefts.

Lozada was also charged with offenses by the Deerfield, Niles, Lincolnwood, and Schiller Park police departments.
