Woman Killed In Hit-And-Run In Waukegan

WAUKEGAN, IL — A woman is dead following a hit-and-run collision that happened Wednesday evening in Waukegan. Police say a Zion woman in her 40s was killed in the collision, which occurred at about 5:40 p.m. in the area of Sheridan Road and Greenwood Avenue, according to a post on the Waukegan Police Department Facebook page.

Authorities were initially called to the scene for a report of a person lying in the roadway. When they arrived, they found the woman badly hurt. She was taken to an area hospital where she died, police said.

An autopsy on the woman, whose identity has not yet been released, is scheduled for Friday.

Police believe the woman was walking south on Sheridan Road when she was hit by a vehicle. A dark-colored SUV could possibly have been involved in the incident, according to the Facebook post.
