Police Search Independence Grove After Missing Person Report
Officers search the lake and forest preserve. The missing person was later found safe at a different location.
LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Authorities conducted an overnight search at Independence Grove Forest Preserve in recent weeks after a person was reported missing, Lake County Forest Preserve Director of Public Safety John Tannahill told Patch in an e-mail response. Ranger police found a vehicle at the forest preserve in Libertyville after the preserve had closed.
And after searching the preserve and not turning up the owner of the car, officers reached out to the family who told police the person had been depressed and was recently hospitalized. The family reported the person missing on June 23 and a search continued through the night and following morning, Tannahill said.
During the search, officers requested the fire department check the lake at Independence Grove Forest Preserve. The search was called off after the person was found alive in a "different location," Tannahill said.
