Good ole New Years resolutions. 45% of people usually make a New Years Resolution on a yearly basis. Of those, only 8% tend to achieve success. According to Statistic Brain 65% of people who make a resolution are able to keep it for the first month.
So what type of resolutions are people making in 2014? Health tops the list every year with working out more, eating better, increased sleep and more! The problem with New Years Resolutions, or most goals for that matter is they are unspecific. Rounding out the list of top resolutions includes living life to the fullest, staying fit and healthy, save money, and manage debt.
A resolution can only be obtained, if it is measurable. If you've ever learned about goal setting you've heard the term S.M.A.R.T. goals. Apply these principles to your new years resolutions for a better chance of hitting them!
- Specific : Who, what, where, when, why. Goals need a time frame, numbers, whose involved. How much weight in how much time, not just lose weight. Where are you going to lose this weight? At home, at the gym, or with a trainer?
- Measureable: How are you going to measure? Weekly or monthly? What are the criteria for measurement?
- Attainable: Goals should be important to you. You are worthy of any goal you wish to achieve.
- Realistic: This doesn't mean setting the bar low. This means it has to be a goal you are WILLING to work for.
- Timely: If you just say by 2015, you may put off the goal. Set a date or mile markers of when you want to measure progress.
Wishing everyone a safe, happy, healthy and achievable 2014!
