Remains Found Near Round Lake Could be From a Child: Authorities
The remains were found in an abandoned structure near Round Lake on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to an abandoned structure in the 33100 block of North Fairfield Road in unincorporated Round Lake at about 2:45 p.m. after a caretaker found what was believed to be human remains while removing items from a shed, according to a Lake County Sheriff's Office news release.
The Lake County Coroner's Office responded and collected the possible human remains, which appear to be a skull. The remains will now be examined by a forensic pathologist, forensic odontologist and anthropologist.
The coroner's office has determined the skull fragments and teeth are between 50 and 100 years old, according to the Daily Herald.
Detectives conducted a thorough search of the abandoned shed Saturday afternoon and will continue to investigate how the items came to be located in the abandoned structure, according to the news release.
