Village Aims To Save Trees In New Subdivision
A developer is proposing to build a new subdivision with 15 homes near Butterfield Road and Route 176.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL -- Village officials are not backing down when it comes to saving as many trees as possible in a new residential subdivision planned for the west side of Butterfield Road in Libertyville, the Daily Herald reports. The developer, Paul Swanson of Mount Prospect, is looking to build 15 homes on a 7.6-acre triangular property west of Butterfield, which would be just south of Route 176. The development would be bordered by the North Shore Bike Patch.
The plan has so far been reviewed at four public hearings, according to the Daily Herald. Last week, the proposal headed to the village board where trustees ended up approving it 4-2. A revised plan included the addition of a wooded area that would be maintained by a homeowner association but open for all to use, according to the Daily Herald. Revisions were also made to the language surrounding which trees in the subdivision would be saved.
"We know there are going to be some mature trees taken down, there's no question they're going to," Mayor Terry Weppler said. "Our goal is to save every one that we can."
