The Weekend Junker: Shopping at Estate Sales, Garage Sales, Flea Markets, and...

Is it "Junque" or "junk"? Come learn some tips for shopping garage sales and flea markets.

If you’re a weekend junker that keeps buying “junk,” this NEW course is for you. It will teach you how to discern the junk from the treasures, how to spot fakes, how to look for chips, cracks, tears, and other mishaps, and how to inspect things so you don’t purchase something damaged. You’ll also learn how to peruse a room so you don’t waste time on the junk, but head straight to the valuables. Finally, you will learn the basics of identifying markings and distinguishing features on antiques and collectibles that make them authentic. This hands-on interactive course will give you the skills needed to be a knowledgeable weekend junkie–one who comes home with real antiques, real treasures, and maybe that special diamond in the rough. Gold Card Fee is $17.50. Tuition: $35. Class meets 6:00–8:00 PM Wednesday, October 7–October 14, at Vernon Hills High School. Registration is required. Register online through District 128’s Community Education Department at www.ComEd128.org, or call 847-247-4576 to register by phone.
