Woman Killed In Crash Near Gurnee

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 64-year-old Gurnee woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash near Gurnee over the weekend.

The collision happened at about 12 p.m. Saturday when a 2022 Hyundai headed north on Route 41 began making a left turn onto westbound Stearns School Road when it collided with a 2020 Subaru, which was southbound on Route 41, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office

The driver of the Subaru, a 64-year-old Gurnee woman, initially appeared to have minors injuries but her "condition deteriorated" shortly after she arrived at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and she appeared to be paralyzed from the neck down, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

She died at about 7 p.m. at the hospital, according to the news release.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 58-year-old Mount Prospect man, was not injured.

An autopsy is planned for Monday for the Gurnee woman. The cause of the crash and the woman's death remains under investigation.
