ZION, IL -- A 57-year-old Zion man was taken into custody on murder charges this past week, police said. Vincent C. Bevly was arrested on May 17 on a $5 million arrest warrants for two counts of first-degree murder for allegedly killing Cory J. Rhinehart, an army veteran who was reported missing by his family back in March.
Authorities were not releasing many details following Bevly's arrest but did saw Rhinehart was killed before he was reported missing by his family on March 18, according to a news release from the Zion Police Department. In a statement released Saturday, authorities apologized to Bevly's family and the Zion community for how long it took to solve the crime and the "prolonged strain" it put on everyone involved.
"The arrest is a culmination of a long, detailed and complex investigation that involved hundreds of man hours by Zion police officers and detectives and members of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force," according to a news release.

Police believe Rhinehart, an army veteran, called authorities at about 8:30 p.m. on March 15--two days before he was reported missing--and then hung up.
Police traced the call and went to an apartment in the 2100 block of Gabriel Avenue to investigate. There, they found human blood on the door, walls and floor, WGN-TV reported in March. Police said Rhinehart's phone was turned off and he didn't show up to the nursing home where he works as a dietary aide in the three days following the phone call on March 15.
