Firefighters Rescue Man From Clothing Donation Box

A man told firefighters that his girlfriend threw his cell phone into the box in the Near North Side, according to a report.

CHICAGO, IL — A man was rescued by firefighters early Thursday on Chicago's Near North Side. The man got stuck in a clothing donation box on North Lasalle Drive. He was rescued just before 4 a.m., according to officials.

The box was about six feet tall and several feet wide. It is located on a sidewalk near Oak Street. The man was in the box for about 30 minutes, according to authorities.

Officials said it wasn't immediately clear why the man was in there; however, WGN 9 reported that the man could be heard telling firefighters he went into the box after his girlfriend threw his cell phone in it.

The man underwent a check by paramedics and had no injuries.

Earlier this month, a burned body was found in a clothing donation bin in Uptown, police said. No details about the nature of the death have been released.
