Fundraiser Launched For Lincoln Park Stabbing Victim

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help a student who was stabbed on Webster Avenue.

CHICAGO, IL — A fundraiser for a woman who was attacked in Lincoln Park last week is gaining momentum. The GoFundMe account was set up to help the victim pay for hospital expenses, according to the website. The account shows pictures of stab wounds and cuts all over the woman's upper body.

The 21-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times in the 1200 block of West Webster last Tuesday, police said. The victim didn't know the man who attacked her, according to police.

As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe account had raised $4,700 of its $50,000 goal.

"...we know that this will be a financial burden that will last much longer than the injuries," the victim's friend posted on the GoFundMe page. "Without insurance, the cost of the ambulance, surgery, hospital stay, and physical therapy are going to be extremely high."

According to the post, the victim's hand was badly injured.

"It seems that during the attack, the knife had sliced into her wrist and cut all of the ligaments in her hand, and part of the nerve that controls sensation in the fingers," the post said.

Chicago police have released a surveillance video of a suspect in the attack. Police said the offender parked the vehicle prior to the attack, and got back into it after the stabbing. The man then fled northbound, police said. The offender last seen wearing a black hoodie and baggy black pants, police said.

DePaul University is several blocks away from the attack. School officials sent out safety warning to students this week warning them to be vigilant and report anything suspicious.
