Every so often we are fortunate enough to get in a very special one of a kind treasure. This item is certainly one of those rare finds. It was made from the actual hatches of a genuine World War II Liberty Ship! Yes, these are actual hatch doors salvaged from the cargo holds of a WWII US Navy Liberty Ship! The solid wood planks are naturally distressed from the weathering seas (and quite possibly German shrapnel). Note the recessed metal handles fitted over the scooped-out part of the planks, and the thick riveted metal bands wrapped around each end of the hatch covers. The top hatch cover measures 60”Long x 29”Deep x 2.5”High. It sits on top of a hatch cover that was cut in half to support the top as a sturdy base. Each hatch cover weighs 95 LBS – for a total item weight of 190+ LBS.. Rough, tough, with lots of character – much like our beloved WWII U.S. Navy seaman! Wouldn’t this make a PERFECT executive desk for a retired Captain or WWII history buff? It would even make a great kitchenette table. Certainly a must have for the nautical minded person looking to produce the most authentic nautical theme for their waterfront home.
Full Desk Dimensions: 60”Long x 29”Deep x 29-7/8”High
