Man Charged In Lincoln Park, Old Town Porch Package Thefts

Police said the man was tracked using GPS in a bait package.

CHICAGO — A man faces charges after packages were stolen off porches in the Lincoln Park and Old Town neighborhoods, police said. An investigation, dubbed "Operation Porch Pirate," was launched by the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service on Chicago's North Side.

James Myers, 24, was arrested after police and postal inspectors tracked him down using a GPS device that was put inside the bait package, police said.

"Prosecutors said property belonging to five residents of Lincoln Park and Old Town were found in the thief’s car along with a dummy package that had been planted on an Old Town porch as part of the investigation," Ald. Michele Smith said in a community alert to residents Tuesday.
