Evidence Of Child Sex Abuse Material Found In Now-Fired DuPage Deputy's Home: Attorney General

Steven Simmons, 32, of Lisle, was fired after he was charged with disseminating sex abuse material involving children younger than 13.

LISLE, IL — A DuPage County Sheriff's Deputy was fired after being charged with three counts of disseminating sex abuse materials involving children younger than 13 years old.

Steven Simmons, 32, of the 5500 block of Lakeside Drive, Lisle, was arrested after investigators from the Illinois Attorney General's Office reported finding evidence sexual abuse materials during a search of his home.

“Child exploitation is a horrific crime that is made even more reprehensible when the alleged offender is entrusted by the public to serve as a county correctional officer,” Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul said in a statement.

Raoul added, “I want to thank the local law enforcement partners who assisted with this case. I remain committed to ensuring victims and their families receive the justice they deserve by holding the offenders who commit these crimes accountable – no matter who they are. ”

According to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office (DSCO), Simmons was placed on administrative leave after they were notified of the investigation. Simmons was fired after the charges were filed at his initial court appearance on May 20.

In a statement, DCSO wrote, "The conduct alleged by Mr. Simmons is completely contrary to the values and mission of the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. We do not support, condone, or tolerate behavior of this nature under any circumstance. The safety and protection of children is a cornerstone of our commitment to this community, and we will continue to fully cooperate with the Illinois Attorney General's Office throughout this investigation."

If convicted, Simmons faces up to 30 years in prison. The next court hearing for Simmons is scheduled for June 15.
