Formal Censure For Planning A Library Fundraiser
Censuring Board Member for Using Library Logo for Library Fundraiser seems Absurd
Boy oh Boy, the Lisle Library Board has gone too far this time. They are voting to Censure Board Member Liz Sullivan at the Open Meeting tonight at 7pm at the Library. It is clear that this has been engineered by past president Richard Flint. He still hasn't gotten over the fact that Liz was elected to an officer position during her first year on the board and the board voted "no confidence" in Flint as the board did not elect him to any officer position.
We need to ask ourselves, "If the library doesn't protect Free Speech who will? What's next, banning books?" It seems like Flint is operating in the dark ages. If this censure resolution passes, it indicates that the remaining board members are too. When board members take their oath they swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States. Haven't they read the First Amendment guaranteeing free speech?
There has been public outcry at the possibility of this Censure as the community has expressed their support of Ms. Sullivan. It also looks like Flint has his lackey say what Flint doesn't have the guts to say at board meetings. Just watch some of the meeting videos as his lackey speaks at the beginning of the video during public comment. https://www.youtube.com/channe...

WHY CENSURE RESOLUTION IS WRONG
- It seems highly irregular to pass a resolution that is retroactive to previous events.
- Liz Broke No Existing Policies.
- Director Tatiana Weinstein did not forward the emails to all trustees when Liz requested her to do so.
- Director Tatiana Weinstein refused to add Liz’s analyses to any board packet. They contained information critical to decision making but make Director Tatiana Weinstein look incompetent and shows how she is wasting taxpayer money.
- Liz received legal approval via the board president from the library's lawyer to send emails to all trustees. The lawyer said that her sending emails to all trustees did not violate the Open Meeting Acts (OMA) just as Director Tatiana Weinstein sending emails to all the trustees does not violate the OMA.
- Liz received permission to use people's public email addresses & other info before she forwarded their emails to the trustees.
- The Friends organization informed people via email that they should go to her fundraiser if the people wanted to learn about the Friends organization. She was copied on these emails & she took this to mean the Friends organization gave their endorsement of the fundraiser.
- It is a violation of the First Amendment guaranteeing Free Speech to limit what an elected official says via any media.
- When she was sent the advisory letter from the president concerning using the logo, she immediately deleted it from all her posts.
- She has canceled her fundraiser entirely.
- If the censure resolution passes, candidates running for their first term will be able to use social media but existing trustees running for reelection will not. The board president confirmed that the resolution will apply to all trustees.
- Her FB page says that posts are her opinions only & not representative of the board.
