How To Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month At Morton Arboretum

LISLE, IL — Morton Arboretum will immerse guests in Hispanic culture with edible gardening, dance and music performances, food tasting and other activities Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 in honor of Hispanic Heritage month.

Below is a roundup of the offerings you'll find at the arboretum in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month:

  • Bilingual Tram Tours on Sept. 16 and Sept. 17 highlight the arboretum's different ecosystems with tour guides sharing information in Spanish and English
  • Tree conservation in Latin America takes the spotlight Sept. 16 and Sept. 17 at 1:30 p.m., with scientist discussing their efforts to conserve trees in Latin America. A 90-minute documentary will outline ongoing initiatives to save endagered arroyo oak trees in Mexico.
  • Bilingual Storytime invites kids to the arboretum's children's garden to hear stories read in Spanish and English. Storytimes are set for Sept. 23 at 10 a.m., Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. and Oct. 7 at 11 a.m.
  • Monarch butterfly tours will be available on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to teach guests about the annual journey monarchs make from Central America.

“The Arboretum is working with our Latino/a/x community partners and staff to celebrate, honor and share the diverse cultures, histories and contributions of those whose heritage is connected to Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America,” Arboretum Inclusion Director Aarón Siebert-Llera said in a statement.
