New Features, Late Nights Set For 2022 Morton Arboretum Illumination

LISLE, IL — New features are set to make the 2022 Morton Arboretum Illumination holiday lights event even more dazzling, including two 15-foot towers that float on Meadow Lake and project beams of light into the air.

Another new addition to this year's Illumination is a late-night event called Electric Illumination that will be geared to the 18-and-older crowd and featuring house, progressive and other DJ tunes that will sync up with animated lights.

In total, there will be six new features at the popular annual event, for a total of 18 light features that will illuminate a one-mile path on the arboretum grounds. The new Grand Garden will sparkle with lights and guests will be able to interact with a feature called Shadow Play that allows them to create artistic shadows with their movements .

“We’re taking Illumination to a new level this year in celebration of the Arboretum’s centennial and the 10th anniversary of the exhibition,” Preston Bautista, vice president of learning and engagement at Morton Arboretum said in a news release.

Bautista added, “The addition of Electric Illumination provides a new and distinct late-night experience with an entirely different soundtrack,” he explained. “This will also be the first year that the finale will be approached through a sparkling tunnel of light along the Arboretum’s new Grand Garden, opening Sept. 18.”

Illumination 2022 will run Nov. 19 through Jan. 7, with entry between 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on regular nights. Electric Illumination nights are set for Dec. 16, 23 and 30 from 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
