(Lisle) -Recently, the 5th grade Junior Girl Scout troop at St. Joan of Arc has built and donated a Little Free Library to earn their Bronze Award.
With help from the Village of Lisle, they have installed this library near Dragonfly Landing near downtown Lisle, in order to attract many residents and visitors. “Our library has a take-a-book, leave-a-book” honor system. Depending on when you visit, there could be books for kids or adults orboth,” says Lily Scanlon, one of the Junior Girl Scouts.
The bronze award is the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can earn. “We have worked hard to come up with this idea and execute in time for the summer,” says Mary Elizabeth Ebey, another Junior Girl Scout. The troop used funds earned from their cookie sales to purchase the materials. Each of the girls took turns building and painting the library. A few wrote a letter to Lisle Trustee, Marie Hasse, asking for help in placing the library within the community. Another team made plans for the Grand Opening on June 4th.
It was a true collective effort by Troop 50631, which has thirteen 5th graders from St. Joan of Arc school: Lily Anderson, Molly Testin, Lillian Hantsch, Makayla Calmeyn, Lily Scanlon, Mary Elizabeth Ebey, Isabella Perez, Jane Funk, Taylor Kunka, Maddie Solomon, Abby Caminar, Elizabeth Szalek and Meg Walls. Troop leaders are Pam Testin, Jessica Calmeyn and Maria Anderson.
We encourage you to join us at the Grand Opening!
