• (We stopped counting, but…) FedEx box truck becomes at least 74th vehicle to hit historic bridge in Long Grove (barringtonhillsobserver.com) — A FedEx box truck struck Long Grove’s historic Robert Parker Coffin Bridge on Saturday afternoon, becoming at least the 74th vehicle to hit the low-clearance span in recent years. The truck backed out and freed itself, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded shortly after, according to nearby business Neumann’s Cigars and More of Long Grove.
   

• Large fire department response after report of explosion, fire that engulfed rear of house in Fox River Grove (lakemchenryscanner.com) — Long Grove firefighters were among several area departments called late Friday to help battle a major house fire in Fox River Grove that began with a reported explosion. The vacant home, under renovation, suffered extensive damage but no injuries were reported, and officials say the blaze is not considered suspicious while the investigation continues.
