Baby Dies After Found Unresponsive At Illinois Truck Stop: Police

The infant died of closed head injuries and blunt force head trauma, according to authorities, and the death is being considered a homicide.

MONEE, IL — A baby from Milwaukee died after he was found in distress at a truck stop in Monee, according to police.

Officers responded about 9 a.m. Wednesday to Petro Travel Center, 5915 Monee Manhattan Road off Interstate 57, for a call about an infant who wasn’t breathing, according to Monee police.

Paramedics were able to resuscitate the boy, identified as two-month-old Sevyn Simmons, but he died Friday at Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, police said. The baby died of closed head injuries and blunt force head trauma, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, which classified the death as a homicide.

Before police were called last week to the truck stop, the boy had been in the care of his mother, a 28-year-old from Green Bay, and his father, a 28-year-old from Milwaukee, authorities said. The family was staying overnight at Petro in their semitrailer before returning to Wisconsin, according to police, who said the death is under investigation.
