Community Asked To Rally For Family Of 'Bright, Loving Little Girl' Who Died After Crash, Brother Recovering

Ombre Mangram, 10, died days after a crash in Kankakee Co. Her brother survived. Their family is raising funds for her funeral, his care.

KANKAKEE COUNTY — The family of a girl who died days after an alleged DUI crash in Kankakee County last week is turning to the community for assistance with her funeral. The girl, 10, and her brother, 8, were critically injured when the truck in which they were riding crashed into a creek in Kankakee County.

The girl—identified by family as Ombre Rose Mangram—died Monday, Feb. 16. Her brother Ronnell Mangram survived the crash, but faces a long recovery, family said in a GoFundMe campaign established Wednesday.

The driver—Phyllis A. Moses, 58, of Pembroke Township—was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. It is not yet known if additional charges for Moses are forthcoming. Patch has reached out to the Kankakee County State's Attorney's Office for more information.

In the GoFundMe campaign for the family, Ombre is described as "a bright, loving little girl" whose loss has gutted the family.

"This heartbreaking event has left our family in deep pain and struggling to cope with the loss," the family wrote. "The parents are overwhelmed with grief, and the absence of insurance has made it impossible to cover the costs of a funeral for Ombre Rose or the ongoing care that Ronell desperately needs. We are doing everything we can to support each other, but the financial burden is more than we can bear alone."

Family said funds raised will go directly toward funeral expenses for Ombre, and medical treatment and therapies for Ronnell.

"Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference and bring hope to our family during this incredibly difficult time," the family wrote. "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, compassion, and support."
