Manhattan Sixth Grader Honored For Community Service

The Giraffe Award is given annually to a student who shows exemplary community service.

MANHATTAN, IL — The village board honored Manhattan sixth grader Addison Griffith at the meeting on May 7. Griffith is a student at Manhattan Junior High School and is this year's Giraffe award winner.

According to District 114, the Giraffe Award is given annually to a student who shows exemplary community service.

Board documents state that Griffith helps year-round with Operation Christmas Child, saving her own money to help children in need. She also volunteers at One Kingdom at Hickory Creek Church, and helps clean up the community and helps elderly in need of clean up duties.
