MANHATTAN, IL — Two weeks after announcing its cancelation for 2026, Manhattan's Independence Day Parade is back on, the Village announced Tuesday.

The parade, which had initially been suspended due to anticipated traffic congestion from the return of the Chicagoland Speedway NASCAR races (July 3–5), will now take place as planned on Saturday, July 4, at 10 a.m.

The decision was made following "strong community feedback and overwhelming support," the Village said Tuesday in a release.

"Reinstating the Independence Day Parade, especially as we prepare to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary, is a meaningful way to honor our history, showcase our local pride, and create lasting memories for families across Manhattan," said Mayor Mike Adrieansen. "We’re excited to see our community come out in full spirit to celebrate both our country and our village."

The parade route will begin at Anna McDonald Elementary School and proceed through the neighborhood near the Elementary School, the Village said in a release. Residents, local organizations, and businesses are encouraged to participate. Registration is available online through the Village of Manhattan website.

As part of the celebration, the Village will also commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States with special patriotic enhancements. These include:

  • Patriotic-themed displays in grassy areas near Wabash and Arrowhead

Funding for these initiatives is provided through a $10,000 grant from the Joliet Arsenal Development Authority (JADA), supporting both the Route 66 Centennial (100th anniversary) and local tourism efforts.
