Trash Pickup Delayed New Year's Closings In Manhattan

After New Year's, the pickup schedule returns to normal.

MANHATTAN, IL — Trash pickup was one day late this week due to Christmas, and it will also lag one day next week thanks to New Year's. The Village of Manhattan issued a reminder that trash pickup will happen Tuesday, Jan. 2 due to Waste Management's holiday schedule, before resuming on Mondays on Jan. 8.

Typical holiday closings will also be in place for New Year's Day:

  • Post office: Closed
  • Federal offices: Closed
  • Village of Manhattan: City offices are closed. Garbage collection will be delayed a day.
  • Will County offices, including the circuit clerk's office, courts, health department and more will be closed on Christmas.
  • Manhattan schools: Closed (Winter break lasts through Jan. 8, 2018 for Manhattan School District 114 and Jan. 9 for Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210)
  • Manhattan-Elwood library: Closed Saturday, Dec. 30 and Monday, Jan. 1, 2018
  • Banks: Closed
  • Gas stations: Open
  • Retail stores: Some will be closed, some — including a few area grocery stores — will be open, but check the hours before you go.
