• Manteno sets Gotion timeline for fire brigade (shawlocal.com) — Manteno officials are moving toward a formal agreement that would force Gotion’s battery plant to maintain its own 24/7 on-site fire brigade or risk losing its occupancy permit. Village trustees, the fire district, and the company are still ironing out operational and financial details, but proposed deadlines at the end of July and August could directly affect plant operations and community safety. 
• Scarlett Blanco, 19: Disappeared In 2021 While Traveling In Illinois (ourblackgirls.com) — A 19-year-old woman who often spent time in Kankakee County communities, including Manteno, has been missing since May 2021, and details about her disappearance remain scarce. Authorities say she left a Kankakee residence headed toward Momence but never arrived, and they’re still asking anyone in Manteno or nearby towns with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
