• Samaritan's Purse helping with tornado recovery in Charleston area (jg-tc.com) — Tornado damage in our area was severe enough that parts of the Mattoon Middle School roof ended up in the Rotary Community Aquatic Center next door, while Charleston neighborhoods and the Coles County Fairgrounds also saw major tree and building damage. Samaritan’s Purse has set up a disaster relief trailer in Charleston, with volunteers clearing debris and helping residents recover.

• Virginia Mae Lieb, 74 (effinghamradio.com) — Family and friends are mourning Virginia Mae Lieb, 74, who recently received baptism at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon and passed away Saturday at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Visitation and services are set for Wednesday in Shelbyville, with burial near Fancher and memorials suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
