Monzerat Garcia awarded $20,000 scholarship to attend the University of Illinois Springfield (springfieldherald.news) — A McHenry student, Monzerat Garcia, has earned a $20,000 Capital Scholars Award to study legal studies at the University of Illinois Springfield starting this fall. The scholarship recognizes her strong GPA and high school involvement, and it can be renewed if she maintains required grades. Garcia hopes to pursue immigration law after graduation, inspired by UIS’s Illinois Innocence Project.
   

3. Woodstock baseball outslugs Plano: Northwest Herald Tuesday roundup (shawlocal.com) — McHenry softball fans saw a tight nonconference game at home, with the Warriors falling 6-5 to Warren despite a three-run homer from Morgan Frederick and three hits from Danica McCarthy. The roundup also highlights strong performances from nearby schools in baseball, softball, and boys tennis, including Woodstock, Huntley, Crystal Lake teams, and Woodstock North.
   

4. Lake County family files lawsuit against well-known dog food company, alleges it caused their beloved dog's death (lakemchenryscanner.com) — A Lake Forest family has filed a federal class-action lawsuit claiming Blue Buffalo’s grain-free dog food contributed to their dog’s fatal heart disease, a case noted by Lake and McHenry County Scanner. The suit seeks refunds, vet costs, and marketing changes, citing research and FDA complaints about potential cardiac risks from certain grain-free formulas. General Mills declined to comment on the pending litigation.
