• Mendota hopes to continue Safe Routes to School initiative (shawlocal.com) — Mendota is pursuing more Safe Routes to School funding to add sidewalks and improve crossings around Blackstone Elementary and Northbrook School after earlier upgrades near Lincoln School. The city is working with engineering firm HW Lochner and awaiting a 2027 state grant decision, while separate transportation funds will enhance access to Mendota Township High School and a bike path linking downtown to Lake Kakusha.
