Why are you seeking office?
I have been actively involved in a variety of community and civic organizations for nearly 25 years. I raised my children in Mokena, and intend to retire here. I wish to continue to stay active and involved, and believe my knowledge of the community will be beneficial.I want Mokena to be the best it can be.
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
My previous involvement in so many community and civic organizations, as well as my current employment, gives me a great perspective on what is going on with the citizens of the Village. In addition, I see things from a mother's perspective, and have great empathy for the youth in the community.
In your opinion, what are the primary challenges facing the village?
Declining property values due to lack of real economic development over the last six years or so, while our neighboring towns continue to thrive and open major new businesses.
How will you address those challenges?
I think the Village needs to agressively pursue major developments, by making use of a professional economic development coordinator. Streamline the development process to speed tings up.
If elected, what will be your philosophy as a member of the village board?
Listen carefully to all sections of the Village, keep an open mind, and make myself as available as I possibly can. I will endeavor to work with all Board members in a positive and collegial manner, and treat the rest of the Board as well as the staff with the respect they deserve.
