Arbury Hills Students Learn To Code

First through fourth grade students at Arbury Hills School in Mokena learned coding techniques.

MOKENA, IL - First through fourth grade students at Arbury Hills School in Mokena are learning to code at a young age. The students at the Summit Hill District 161 school recently participated in the Hour of Code using the website http://code.org by programming code for maze activities.

"They were able to learn that computer science is fun and easy at their age," said Francie Boss, principal at Arbury Hills School.

Students began using a simple block style method for video game coding.

First and second grade students began programming code for maze activities and then moved on to programming code for Star Wars activities.

Third and fourth grade students had their choice to program code with Frozen, Minecraft or Star Wars activities.

"The students loved being engaged in the computer science problem solving activities," Boss said.
