Does New Lenox Metra Station Need a Facelift?
A new station at Church Street would cost the village between $3 million and $5 million.

The New Lenox Metra station at Church Street has been around since 1900, but New Lenox officials hope to bring it into the next century by 2016.
The village is spending more than $50,000 as part of the pre-engineering and predesign planning for a new station, as well as looking for ways to fund the project, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Officials estimate the cost to build a new, 2,200-square-foot station would run between $3 million and $5 million, the report stated. To pay for the construction, the village is targeting the estimated $200,000 annual sales tax revenue generated by CVS, Fleckenstein’s Bakery and the other new businesses opening up soon near the Route 30 and Cedar Road intersection, the report added.

Although a proposed design of what a new station would look like is on display at Village Hall, that design isn’t finalized, the report stated. Plans also are in the works to hold public meetings and survey commuters about a new station, the report added.
The village also plans to preserve the old station because of its historical significance, the report stated.
