Elderly Woman Found Safe After Wandering from Farmers Market

A 73-year-old woman who strayed from the Mokena Farmers Market Saturday afternoon has been found safe, Mokena Police report.

A 73-year-old woman who was missing for nearly seven hours after wandering away from the farmers market has been found safe, report. 

"I have to credit our reverse 9-1-1 system," said Mokena Police Sergeant Chris Carlson. 

The police department issued an emergency phone notification to all residents, alerting them to an elderly woman reported as missing from the farmers market Saturday afternoon. The woman suffers from dementia, police said. She had last been seen around 1 or 1:30 p.m.; police were notified around 5:30 p.m.

A man received the emergency notification as he was driving near Francis and Schoolhouse roads, and spotted the woman. He alerted police, who reunited the woman with her family around 8 p.m. Saturday night. 

"She was safe and sound," Carlson said.

Police are not releasing the woman's name.
