Friends Hosting Fishing Tournament in Honor of Aaron Toppen

The overnight catfish fishing tournament is set for August 16–17.

Friends and family of Mokena’s fallen Aaron Toppen are hosting an overnight fishing tournament in honor of the soldier.

Toppen was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan this summer. 

The event will be held August 16–17, at Izaak Walton League of America, 14736 Beachview Terrace in Dolton. Participants can join as teams of 2, for $100 per team.

The event begins at 3 p.m. with raffles, food, beverages, and a silent auction. Fishing begins at 7 p.m. and goes until 8 a.m. the following morning. Event will also include raffles and auctions, with prizes such as Lots of raffles a fishing charter for four on Lake Michigan, acustomized bean bag set made in honor of Aaron, camo Bears and Hawks jerseys, Garth Brooks concert tickets, and more.

To register, call 312-608-4224 and speak with Amy. Also open registration from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. the day of event at Izaak Walton club. Space is limited to 50 teams.

Cash prizes will be awarded for biggest catch, with $500 for first place, $300 for second, and $200 for third.

RULES & OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW
Rain or shine, this event is on! (“A little rain never hurt anybody, and we aren’t going to allow it to keep us down!” organizers say.)

Food and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be available for purchase. No outside beverages are allowed!

All DNR rules apply—all fisher-people (men and women alike) must have the proper fishing license.

It’s an overnight catfish tournament—come prepared! Flashlights, warm clothing, bug spray—whatever you may need to stay warm, dry, and safe!
