Lincoln-Way Central Marching Knights Take Second in Wheaton North Invitational

Special uniform touches highlighted the band's showing Saturday, Sept. 27.

The award-winning Lincoln-Way Central Marching Knights continued their competitive season this past Saturday, September 27, with a very successful performance in the Wheaton North High School Falcon Fest Marching Festival.

The Marching Knights tied for 2nd place overall in the Class AA category. In addition the 80-member strong Marching Knights took home the award for Best Color Guard.

“This weekend was our first performance of the third part of our show, and it went great. The Marching Knights represented Lincoln-Way Central with honor and pride,” said Chris Mroczek, Director of Bands for Central.

“Saturday was also the debut of our special uniform enhancements that add to the overall effect of the show design. The students and I are very much looking forward to the next few weeks where we will continue to work hard and improve the show. As always, I am very thankful for our incredible chaperones and supportive parents present in the audience.”

The Marching Knights 2014 drum majors are seniors Samantha Steagerman, from Manhattan, and Richard A. Huish from New Lenox.

The Marching Knights new field show for the 2014 competition is entitled, “Joy In All Things.” The two pieces of music are “Joy In All Things” by Brian Balmages and “With Heart and Voice” by David Gillingham.

“The show is a visual and musical interpretation that attempts to capture the unyielding energy and happiness associated with the feeling of joy,” noted Mroczek.

The Marching Knights also perform their competitive show during half time at each home football game.
