LW 210 Board Weighs Who Will Fill Vacant Seats

Also, district will pay for ACT for juniors.

The Lincoln-Way High School District 210 board on Wednesday began its interviews of candidates to fill two vacant seats.

The board entered closed session to conduct the interviews for applicants for the seats vacated by former Board President Kevin Molloy and board member Christopher McFadden, both of whom resigned. The openings yielded 23 applicants, among them Joseph Spalla, a former District 210 board candidate; Todd Velky, a Lincoln-Way Area Taxpayers Unite (LWATU) treasurer; retired Palos School District 118 Superintendent Kathleen Casey; Mokena School District 159 board member Aaron Janik; Summit Hill District 161 board President Richard Marron.

LWATU has filed a lawsuit against the Board of Education to stop the closure of Lincoln-Way North High School, decided by the board in August as the best option to pull itself out of dire financial straits.

Interviews were expected to continue Thursday and Friday nights, with the possibility of naming the appointees late Friday or early Saturday. The new members would then be seated at the board’s Feb. 25 meeting.

Also at the meeting, the board decided to pay $56.50 for each junior to take the ACT this March. The estimated total cost is $96,000 for approximately 1,700 juniors.
