Man, 68, Killed In Mokena Apartment Fire: Fire Dept.
A 68-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire on Saturday in Mokena.
MOKENA, IL — A 68-year-old man was killed in a structure fire in Mokena on Saturday, the fire department said. The Mokena Fire Protection District responded to a report of a structure fire at 10:14 a.m. at 11220 First St. According to the department, the call to 911 originally stated that black smoke was coming from the apartment.
Emergency response units arrived on scene at 10:17 a.m., and firefighters began preparing for an interior-offensive fire attack, according to the fire department. The main body of the fire was under control by 10:22 a.m., and additional resources were requested because of a victim from the fire.
The Will County Coroner's Office identified the victim as John McGrath, 68, of Mokena. McGrath was taken to Silver Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 11:15 a.m. There were no other injuries reported from the incident.

Frankfort Fire Protection District, Orland Fire Protection District, Homer Township Fire Protection District, New Lenox Fire Protection District and the Tinley Park Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The department said fire investigators from the Mokena Fire Protection District, the MABAS Division 19 Fire Cause & Origin Team, as well as the Office of the State Fire Marshall conducted the Fire Investigation; at this time, the fire is ruled accidental.
