Middle School Students Run Mock Government Meetings

Students from St. Mary, Mokena Junior High and Summit Hill Junior High learned about local government in their visit to Mokena Village Hall.

MOKENA, IL - Some middle school students from three Mokena schools had a chance to run their own government last week during Student Government Days, held on March 21 and March 22 this year. Students from Mokena Junior High, St. Mary and Summit Hill Junior High all met at Mokena Village Hall those days, first learning about the inner workings of Mokena government and touring the governmental center before holding their own mock village board hearings.

During the meetings, the students assumed roles of public officials who are integral to the operation of the local government. The selected students also toured the Ozinga headquarters in town "to see how old-fashioned hard work and modern day technology come together for a highly successful, family-owned Mokena business," according to a news release from the village.

They capped off the day with pizza from Aurelio's, another successful local business.
