Mokena District 159 Approves Winter Break Projects

The top priority project is a bathroom at Mokena Intermediate that "emits a foul odor."

MOKENA, IL — With school out of session for winter break, the District 159 board of education gave its approval for several projects at Mokena Elementary School, Mokena Junior High School and Mokena Intermediate School.

According to board documents, the top priority project is a bathroom at Mokena Intermediate that "emits a foul odor." The bathroom needs a deep clean, a new exhaust fan, and plumbing and floor replacement. The renovation of the bathroom will take four weeks, so it will extend beyond winter break.

Flooring will also be replaced in a classroom at Mokena Intermediate, as well as in the tech office at Mokena Elementary, board documents state.

Painting will be done at Mokena Elementary and Intermediate in various rooms. Board documents state the exit from the preschool wing at Mokena Elementary will also have a ramp, rail and steps installed. The renovations will now allow for wheelchair access.
