MOKENA, IL — School District 159 had a regular board of education meeting on June 19. The board had various items on the agenda including an amended budget hearing, discussion of age appropriate playground upgrades and reports from various board and staff members.
The district shared these highlights from the meeting:
- The district did a lottery for dual language kindergarten 2019-20 and accepted 20 students into the program.
- The fifth grade novel adoption recommendation is for, "The War That Saved My Life," by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley
- There are 136 students enrolled in kingergarten for 2019-20 with an average class size of 19-20 students.
- Grant funds will be used for the purchase and installation of a playground for the early childhood/early start clasrooms.
- The district has several upcoming projects, including: district-wide painting, summer cleaning and waxing floors, Mokena Junior High boiler burner replacements, and recoating of gym floors.
