Mokena Police Department Receives Grant For New Laptops

The grant is to help with the replacement of laptop computers that are nine years old and near obsolete.

MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Police Department is one of 25 public agencies throughout northern Illinois to receive a grant from ComEd's Powering Safe Communities program. According to ComEd, the grant is to help with the replacement of laptop computers that are nine years old and near obsolete.

Seven laptops are needed to bring the entire fleet to current technology and ComEd said the grant will help offset the purchase cost. The new technology will assist officers in conducting investigations and research, as well as completing reports, without leaving their patrol beats.

According to ComEd, the grants are up to $10,000 each. Other grants are being used for thermal imaging cameras, radar feedback signs, a back-up generator, AEDs for squad cars, a golf cart, messaging signs, and more.
