What You Can't Trash in 2012: New Recycling Rules Start Jan. 1
On Jan. 1, two new state rules go into effect banning certain electronics from landfills. Here's where in Will County to recycle the printers, CPUs and other newly banned goods.

Two state laws that will restrict which electronics can go into landfills will go into effect Jan. 1, 2012.
The 2008 Illinois Electronic Recycling and Reuse Act will, as of Jan. 1, ban the following from Illinois landfills, according to Will County Green:
- Personal computers
- Laptops
- Monitors
- Printers
- Televisions
Separately, SB 2106 enhancement of the Electronic Recycling Act will, also on Jan. 1, ban the following from landfills:

- Keyboards
- Electronic Mice
- Modems
- Hard drives
- CD ROM/Zip/Tape Drives
- Cable/Satellite Receivers
- VCR, DVD, Laser Disc Players
- Palm Organizers/Hand Held Games
- Video Game Players
- Digital Converter Boxes
- Copy/Fax/Scanner Machines
In Mokena, you have several options for recycling electronics, including dropping them off at the Ken Heim Maintenance Facility, 19004 Wolf Road.
Mokena and Will County residents can also call VintageTech Recyclers of Romeoville (877-540-7269 or 866-631-1707) to schedule a free pick-up. This requires at least one computer or another large item, up to 10 items total allowed. Visit Will County Green for complete details.
