Police said an investigation indicates that Smith was hanging out with a group of people near a building in the 500 block of East Ashland Avenue when multiple shots were fired, apparently from a line of trees south of where the group was standing. Smith then ran and collapsed at the spot where he was found by officers.
Police on Saturday said there were no suspects, and no one in custody. An autopsy is pending at the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
