Aurora Girl, 7, Struck by Car, Critically Hurt

The girl was hit by a vehicle in front of her home Monday afternoon.

A 7-year-old Aurora girl who apparently ran into traffic suffered critical injuries after being hit by a car in front of her West Side home on Monday afternoon, Aurora police said.

The girl was hit at approximately 3:10 p.m. by a 2005 Honda Civic that was traveling eastbound in the 1000 block of Plum Street, according to police. The girl underwent initial treatment at an Aurora hospital and was later airlifted to a suburban hospital for treatment of critical head injuries, police said.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, Alfredo Rodriguez-Vega, 18, of the 2300 block of Buttercup Court, Aurora, was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

There were no outward signs of alcohol or drugs at the scene of the crash, police said.
